By leaving a bowl of water out for your cat, you’ve ensured that he/she has easy access to water. And yet, this doesn’t mean your cat is particularly excited about it…

More comfortable consumption – Water bowls can often be too low to the ground for older or arthritic cats, and craning their necks close to the floor is uncomfortable for them. Water fountains, on the other hand, offer a variety of designs that make drinking water fun.
They also provide a more abundant supply, so you can enjoy peace of mind that your cat has easy access to water at all times, despite your busy schedule!
Cats prefer running water to stagnant water – Ever notice how most cats tend to get enticed by water coming from the tap in your kitchen or bathroom? Cats love running water, and a water fountain is going to encourage them to drink much more water throughout the day than a bowl of stagnant water that isn’t moving.
Clean, filtered water that is your cat’s favourite temperature – Modern Pets’ online collection of smart cat water fountains keep your cat’s water at the optimal temperature that cats prefer.
Whereas bowls simply keep the water at room temperature (not to mention that they accumulate hair, dust, dirt and other debris throughout the day), cat water fountains keep the water cool and refreshing. This is especially important in those hot summer months!
There’s a bit of a process for getting your cat to accept this new device for drinking water (especially if your particular kitty is more on the temperamental side!). The first thing you can do to make the transition as smooth as possible, is to choose a fountain that at least looks slightly similar to your cat’s current water bowl.
Once it arrives in the mail, you can slowly introduce your cat to it by placing your water fountain next to the water bowl. Put water in the fountain, but don’t turn it on just yet.
From here, you can start to wean your cat off the bowl by consistently refilling the switched off fountain while letting the bowl of water go stale next to it. Eventually, you can remove the old water bowl completely, and see if your cat is comfortable with drinking the water from the fountain once it’s off.
Once your cat is drinking from the switched off water fountain, you can turn it on for a few hours a day and your cat will gradually get used to lapping up the running water. Finally, be sure to wash the fountain every few days and replace the filters regularly.
In addition to cat water fountains, we also carry an endless range of cat bowls, smart feeders, cat treats, brushes and other essentials.
